Shiva is one of the most well-known Hindu deities. His many forms take shape in art and statues all over the world. He is known as "The Destroyer," but don't judge Shiva too quickly based on that label. Shiva destroys anything that is standing in the way of a person discovering his or her true self. He highlights and removes the obstacles in our spiritual path; therefore, he is an appropriate deity to invoke if one is just beginning a spiritual practice and would like assistance moving forward.

Shiva is 'shakti' or power, Shiva is the destroyer, the most powerful god of the Hindu pantheon and one of the godheads in the Hindu Trinity. Known by many names - Mahadeva, Mahayogi, Pashupati, Nataraja, Bhairava, Vishwanath, Bhava, Bhole Nath - Lord Shiva is perhaps the most complex of Hindu deities. Hindus recognize this by putting his shrine in the temple separate from those of other deities.
